Indonesian cleric Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, who was arrested Monday morning over allegations of supporting terrorism, has a chronic illness, Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) presidium chief Jose Rizal Jurnalis said Monday.
Abu Bakar Ba’asyir Arrested Jose asked the police to allow the presence of a MER-C medical team while Ba’asyir is interrogated, while at the same time objecting to Ba’asyir’s restricted access to legal counsel.
Several MER-C members were among activists who joined the recent Gaza-bound aid flotilla. MER-C also provided medical support for former detective chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji after he was named a graft suspect.
